Hitting the beach: A Cleansing & Grounding Practice

Hello, again folks! It's summertime, and you don't have to be a sea witch to enjoy the cleansing and renewing properties of the ocean, or the grounding and soothing feeling of your body on the sand. Let's get into it!

OCEAN RENEWAL CLEANSE

This cleanse is meant to have your bare feet in the water for maximum effect, but if you need to wear water shoes or sandals, that's okay too. Let's begin by wading in the water. Let the waves wash over your feet as the tide comes in and then out. When the tide comes in, take a deep breath, and as it goes out breathe out, letting go of your anxiety and negativity. Wade out into the water until you are chest deep (if you're not comfortable going out that far, waist-deep is okay too). You're going to dip you're head backward, submerging your hair and the crown of your head. Hold it there a moment. Visualize a clearing of your energy. Acknowledge what's been impossible to push through, and let it go into the sea. Float atop the ocean and feel the lightness in your body. Visualize being surrounded by a protective white light. This would be an opportune time for communicating to spirit guides or deities. Coming out of the ocean, you should feel light and energized. Now let's talk about grounding.

GROUNDING IN THE SAND

This ritual is meant to be after being in the water for maximum effect. Now, we're walking out of the ocean. I'm sure you're familiar with the pesky sand that clings to your feet after being in the water, well that's sort of what we're going for. As you step into the dry sand with your wet feet, slow down at the moment. Pay attention to each step, pressing your feet into the sand. Visualize the sand charging your energy, connecting your steps with the power of the earth. I challenge you now to lay down directly in the sand as if you're going to make a sand angel. Close your eyes. Feel the weight of your body on the ground. Lay like this for a moment, until you feel completely relaxed. Sit up. I'm sure you'll start this next step easily since you are half-covered in the sand. I want you to take each leg one at a time and rub the sand into your feet and up your legs. Feel the exfoliation, shedding the old to let in the new. Repeat this process for the hands and arms. Now, you can either wash off in the ocean or as I prefer, let the sand dry and come off on its own.

CONCLUSION

I hope these rituals help you stay present in the moment. Mindfulness is a skill we must contentiously practice. Remember to stay safe at the beach, but most of all, have fun! Blessed Be.
